We have the teams, the clubs and the events. Now we need the students to actually show up.

There is no shortage of things happening at High Point Central. We have football games, flag football, tennis, volleyball, clubs, performances and events throughout the year.

The problem is not necessarily finding something to do. It is getting people to care enough to show up.

School spirit should be more than wearing a jersey on game day or posting about Homecoming once a year. It is showing up in the stands, supporting your friends, joining a club because you actually care about it and making school feel like a place students want to be.

Our teams put in hours of practice, our clubs spend time building things and our performers spend weeks preparing. It feels strange when all that work happens in front of nearly empty stands or to an audience that barely reacts.

And I don't think students don't care. I think we've gotten used to keeping to ourselves, and that can change.

Go to a game. Bring your friends. Join something. Stay after school for an event. Cheer when your team scores. It doesn't have to be complicated. High Point Central doesn't need to manufacture school spirit. I rather think we just need to start showing it.
